DVD: Protégé

The new film by director Derek Yee (One Night In Mongkok) and starring Andy Lau (House of Flying Daggers, Infernal Affairs) and Daniel Wu (One Night In Mongkok, Purple Storm) is released on DVD in the UK on 8 September by Liberation Entertainment.

Tony Leung and Carina Lau wed

Hong Kong actor Tony Leung has married long term partner Carina Lau in a Buddhist-inspired ceremony in Bhutan, according to reports.

Tony Leung came to the attention of Western audiences in Wong Kar-wai’s In The Mood For Love, and Infernal Affairs, which was remade by Martin Scorsese as The Departed. He also appeared with Carina Lau in Kar-wai’s 2046. He most recently appeared in Ang Lee’s controversial Lust, Caution.

DVD: Death Note

The live-action version of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata famous supernatural Manga gets a UK release as a special limited edition 2-disc DVD. Directed by Shusuke Kaneko (Azumi 2, Gamera) and starring Battle Royale’s Tatsuya Fujiwara, the DVD is released by 4digital Media on Monday 21 July.

Cinema: Origin: Spirits Of The Past

Origin: Spirits Of The Past is released by Manga and begins a limited cinema release on 12 July 2008.

Directed by Keiichi Sugiyama (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Origin: Spirits Of The Past is the first full-length animated feature film made by Studio Gonzo, the Japanese anime studio responsible for the likes of Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Hellsing and She, The Ultimate Weapon.
