The other day I realised one review didn’t make the (rather exhausting it must be said!) switchover to the new style site – The Peacock King. Starring Yuen Biao, this late 80s oddity is less a vehicle for his martial art abilities than it is director Ngai Kam Lam total mashup of various different genres. (His other films include the brilliant The Seventh Curse, unavailable in the UK, and the notorious The Story Of Ricky – aka Riki-Oh.)
More bizarrely, it’s one of Takashi Miike’s first entries as assistant director – or maybe it’s not that strange at all? There’s dinosaurs, sci-fi, horror and claymation sequences…
After nearly six years online, easternKicks has relaunched with the most radical redesign since we began.
