Coming soon: True Legend in UK cinemas in 3D!
Yuen Woo-ping’s True Legend bursts on to UK screens from Friday 24 September with extended bone-crushing sequences in 3D…!
True Legend brings to life the story of Su Can (played by Chiu Man Chuk aka Vincent Zhao, The Legend Of Fong Sai-Yuk, The Blade), who invented the “Drunken Fist” style of martial arts. And being directed and choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping, best known in the West for his work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Matrix and Kill Bill, Vol. 1 & 2, it looks set to the ‘must-see’ martial arts feature of the Autumn.
Of course, despite a long history as an action choreographer on the Hong Kong filmmaking scene it was Yuen’s two collaborations with Jackie Chan – Snake In The Eagle’s Shadow and Drunken Master – that propelled him into the directorial spotlight. The latter was actually about another legendary martial artist, Wong Fei-hong (Once Upon A Time In China), but Yuen has filmed the subject matter before as Beggar So aka Fist Of The Red Dragon, starring Donnie Yen. It was also filmed as King Of Beggars starring Shaolin Soccer/Kung Fu Hustle lead Stephen Chow.
Other highlights from Yuen’s career include Iron Monkey, Tai Chi Master, The Red Wolf and action sequences for Kung Fu Hustle, Fearless, Once Upon A Time In China and The Forbidden Kingdom – where martial art fans finally got to see Jackie face Jet Li – proved that Yuen is still top of his game!
True Legend sees Yuen literally ad a third dimension to his work with extended fight scenes. Dunno about you but I don’t think this is gonna look the same on the small screen, so see it while you can…
