I Saw The Devil UK cinema release date…
I almost feel like Optimum were trying to sneak this under the wire, but according to launchingfilms.com their release date for I Saw The Devil has been confirmed as 29th April. Great to see this in UK cinemas not too long after it’s stateside release.
In fact, the film is slated for UK DVD and Blu-ray release just two weeks later, on Monday 9th May – give or take a time zone a day ahead of the US release from Magnolia. It’s also ahead of any proposed Korean release – possibly due to it’s controversial cuts and lack of box office success there, though I for one would love to see the Park Chan-wook commentary director Kim Jee-Woon said could be a real possibility (even if it’s not subtitled!)
UK audiences, however, will be glad to hear that the film has remained unscaved from the BBFC, receiving a sensible 18 certificate but no cuts whatsoever. (Well, it was never going to mainstream enough for them to worry?)
It’s yet another outstanding film from director Jee-Woon, who once again takes a genre – in this case that of a serial killer, and turns it, and audiences perceptions, on their head. And with stars Choi Min-Sik (Oldboy, Lady Vengeance) and Lee Byung-hun (A Bittersweet Life, The Good, The Bad, The Weird) on board this is unmissable!
I Saw The Devil is on limited release in cinemas from Friday 29 April, with a DVD, Blu-Ray and EST release from 9 May.
(Okay, Optimum guys, time to get some posters up. Now, if you need a hand…)
