There's even a showing of the classic underrated masterpiece King Of Masks. Jun Ichikawa's beautifully understated adaptation of Haruki Murakami's short story finally gets a limited release in the UK and Ireland from Friday 21 April courtesy of Axiom Films. The director will even be in attendance for some of the screenings in London and Cambridge. Those of us who saw it at the 2004 London Film Festival will agree how overdue this release is. 01.04 On a more tragic note, less than a year on from Leslie Cheung's suicide, news has come in of the tragic death of Anita Mui, often referred to (rather unfairly) as the 'Chinese Madonna'. She passed away on 29 December from cervical cancer. Anita co-starred with Cheung in the classic Rouge, which established her as an actress as well as singer. Other major roles include Heroic Trio, Miracles, The Moon Warriors, A Better Tomorrow 3 and Saviour of the Soul.
