“You don’t like my rice? You don’t like my rice?… Mama mia!”

Wednesday, December 1st, 2004

Chow Yun-fat takes the lead in this scene from John Woo’s patchy but occasionally brilliant follow up to his own A Better Tomorrow. Playing the twin brother of the character of the role he played in the original, we first meet him as the owner of a restaurant on New York. When a guy from a protection racket tries to threaten him and his business, Chow Yun-fat flies into a full on Robert De Niro impression – in English – expounding how rice is like his mother and father! The scene even ends with the line “You talking to me?”

Confucius? You will be…

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Chow Yun-fat, star of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Killer and the upcoming live-action Dragonball: Evolution, is set to bring the historical character of Confucius to the screen, according to Times Online. (Well, he has rather become the Asian version of Morgan Freeman of late – the father stroke God figure dishing out advice and wisdom to the lead characters, hasn’t he?)

You can read the full article here, which also includes some pearls of wisdom from both men. (Including “Why do hot dogs come in packages of ten, but hot dog buns only come in packages of just eight?” from Chow Yun-Fat in Bulletproof Monk…

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Could this be why Chow Yun-fat could do Red Cliff? With a strong Asian cast including Eriko Tamura, Joon Park and Jamie Chung, the live action version of the popular manga, game and animation Dragonball looks set to be a big hit for Hollywood this Easter (in a The Forbidden Kingdom sort of a way).

Dragonball Evolution will be released in UK cinemas on 8 April.
